Detections & Flows
What you can react to
Every detection is its own Flow trigger, and most are also a sensor on the device that you can use in conditions and Insights:
| Flow trigger | Sensor |
|---|---|
| A person was detected | Person detected |
| A known person was detected | |
| An unrecognised person was detected | Stranger detected |
| A pet was detected | Pet detected |
| A vehicle was detected | Vehicle detected |
| A sound was detected | Sound detected |
| Crying was detected | Crying detected |
| Motion was detected | Motion (Homey's own) |
| The doorbell was pressed | Doorbell rang |
| A package was delivered / taken / is still waiting | Package delivered / taken / waiting |
| Anything was detected | (carries the kind of detection as a token) |
A device only gets the cards and sensors for the detections its camera reports. A vehicle card appears only on cameras that report vehicle detection, for example.
eufy has one Pet switch, so dog and cat detections both arrive as A pet was detected.
Names of recognised people
A person was detected and A known person was detected carry a Person token: the name of the recognised face, when the camera reports one and that face is enrolled in your eufy account. A stranger triggers An unrecognised person was detected.
If the token stays empty, the camera didn't recognise the face. It can only name people you've added in the eufy app's face recognition.
Why a detection sensor turns itself off
eufy announces that a detection started, but never that it ended. The app keeps the sensor on for a while and then clears it. How long is the Detection reset time setting on each camera, doorbell and sensor: 30 seconds by default, anything from 1 second to an hour.
Read the sensor as "seen in the last N seconds":
- Longer gives a Flow condition more time to see it ("…and Person detected is on").
- Shorter means the sensor is ready sooner to flip on again for the next detection.
Sending the right picture
The detection arrives before its thumbnail. If your Flow sends the camera's Event image at once, it sends the picture from the previous detection.
There are two ways to send the right one.
The Wait for the Event image setting
Turn on Wait for the Event image in the camera's or doorbell's settings. Every detection card on that device then waits for the detection's own picture before its Flows start. It waits up to 20 seconds, and the Flows run either way. Your Flows don't change:
WHEN A person was detected (Front door)
THEN Send push notification with image → Front door · Event imageThe setting is off by default, so detection Flows start straight away. It applies to every detection card on the device, including Anything was detected and A known person was detected. Each of those cards has an (i) hint in the Flow editor that points to this setting.
The A new Event image has arrived condition
To wait in only some Flows, leave the setting off and put the condition A new Event image has arrived between the trigger and the send. It waits (up to 10 seconds by default, 20 at most) for the new picture, then lets the Flow continue:
WHEN A person was detected (Front door)
AND A new Event image has arrived (wait up to 10 s)
THEN Send push notification with image → Front door · Event imageUse the has not arrived form to handle the rare case where no picture comes.
Controls and settings as Flow cards
Every control the device reports gets cards automatically:
- When … changed
- And … is on/off, is/is not, is above/below
- Then Turn … on or off, Set …
On top of those come the device-specific actions:
| Device | Actions |
|---|---|
| Camera | Take a snapshot, pan left/right, tilt up/down, sound / stop the alarm, restart |
| Doorbell | Play a voice response |
| HomeBase | Set Arming Mode, sound / stop the alarm, restart the HomeBase |
| Vacuum | Run a cleaning scene, resume cleaning, find the robot, set suction (plus Homey's own clean/dock/stop) |
| Mower | Resume mowing, find the robot (plus Homey's own start/dock/stop) |
| Light | Play a light effect |
Guard mode
A HomeBase has one Arming Mode control with every mode eufy offers: away, home, schedule, the custom modes, geofence and disarmed. Use Set Arming Mode in a Flow, or the Guard mode widget on your dashboard. When Homey arms the HomeBase, the eufy app's history shows Homey as who did it.
Dashboard widgets
Guard mode, camera snapshot, camera grid, recent activity, smart lock, entry sensors, battery report, device overview, voice responses, robot vacuum (and its map and cleaning scenes), robot mower and light effects. Widgets never wake a device.
