Homey Pro, Self-Hosted Server and Cloud

The app runs on all three. The difference comes down to one fact: a Homey Pro sits in your home, next to your eufy devices. Homey Self-Hosted Server runs the same Homey software on a computer of your own, so it sits in your home too. Homey Cloud runs in a datacenter, and can only reach eufy through eufy's own cloud.

¹ Homey Pro 2023 or newer, or Homey Pro mini.

² The app runs on a Self-Hosted Server and treats it exactly like a Homey Pro: it is the same Homey software, and the app takes the same path on both. If something in this column does not work for you, please say so.

³ The snapshot tool (ffmpeg) is downloaded the first time it is needed, in the build for your computer's processor: 64-bit Intel/AMD, 64-bit ARM or 32-bit ARM.

⁴ Homey finds devices on your network, so the server has to be on that network too. With Docker, that is the host networking Homey's own instructions use.

Why no snapshots on Cloud? A snapshot is decoded from video by a small tool (ffmpeg) that the app runs on your Homey. Homey Cloud doesn't let apps run tools.

Why no live video on Cloud? Both routes to the picture (the camera's own RTSP, and the app's relay) start inside your home network, and a datacenter can't reach in.

The Event image comes from eufy's cloud with the detection, so it works everywhere. For notifications with a picture, it's the one to use anyway.
